It is with great pride and sincere enthusiasm that I write this letter in support of Kristen Schomburg for the position of Sheriff of Middlesex County. I have had the distinct privilege of working alongside Kristen for eighteen years at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, and I can say without reservation that she is one of the most dedicated, innovative, and capable law enforcement professionals I have encountered in my twenty-five-year career.

As an investigator, Kristen demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage complex cases with thoroughness and precision. Her analytical mind and relentless commitment to seeking justice earned the trust and respect of victims, fellow officers, and prosecutors alike. She consistently went above and beyond to ensure that no detail was overlooked and that every case was built on a solid foundation of evidence and integrity.

As a deputy, Kristen proved herself to be a dependable and selfless officer who led by example on every call and in every interaction. Her professionalism on the road, her willingness to mentor younger deputies, and her ability to de-escalate volatile situations set her apart as a model law enforcement officer.

As a Lieutenant overseeing Special Operations, Kristen truly distinguished herself as a visionary leader. She brought an innovative mindset to every challenge, constantly seeking new and better ways to enhance public safety and operational effectiveness. Her leadership was defined by her ability to develop strategic initiatives, manage complex operations, and inspire those under her command to perform at their highest level.

Perhaps one of Kristen’s most noteworthy contributions is her role as an intricate part of the team responsible for developing the upcoming Marine Patrol Unit at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. Her dedication to this initiative speaks volumes about her ability to work within a team, identify critical needs, and help develop meaningful solutions—qualities that are essential in a Sheriff.

Kristen’s innovative approach extended well beyond the Marine Patrol. She also spearheaded the modernization of the agency’s Bike Team by introducing the latest E-bike technology and ensuring personnel received comprehensive training. Her ability to recognize emerging tools and adapt them to meet operational demands is a testament to her forward-thinking leadership.

The residents of Middlesex County deserve a Sheriff who will lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and bring fresh ideas to the office. Kristen Schomburg is that leader. I wholeheartedly endorse her candidacy and am confident that she will serve Middlesex County with the same distinction and dedication that defined her career at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

I had the privilege of working directly with Lieutenant Schomburg when she served as a Lieutenant in the Investigations Division at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office while I was the Captain and Division Commander of that division. During that time, she consistently distinguished herself as an exceptionally capable and dependable supervisor.

Lieutenant Schomburg is highly intelligent and an outstanding investigator. She possesses a keen attention to detail and approaches every case with thoroughness and precision. Her work ethic is unwavering—she is committed to seeing every assignment through to completion and ensuring it is done the right way.

Her experience is both broad and deep, with a strong foundation in patrol operations, criminal investigations, organizational leadership, and personnel management. This well-rounded background has prepared her to lead a law enforcement agency with confidence and effectiveness.

Lieutenant Schomburg is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, one of the most prestigious leadership programs in law enforcement. This achievement reflects her dedication to professional growth and her ability to perform at a high level among her peers.
